POBNEWS24, Dhaka Mar 22, 2025 : A boat carrying Rohingyas capsized in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. The Rohingyas said that there were about fifty passengers on the boat. A total of 25 people have been rescued alive so far. They were trying to escape from Myanmar and infiltrate into Bangladesh, BGB sources told Pobnews24.
The incident took place at 2:30 am on Friday (March 21) in the sea of ​​​​Paschim Para area of ​​​​Shahparir Island in Teknaf. So far, the BGB has rescued 25 people, including women, men, and children, in this incident. It is said that several more Rohingyas are missing in this incident. However, the number of missing people could not be immediately confirmed.
Teknaf-2 BGB Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Md. Ashikur Rahman confirmed the incident of the boat capsize. He said, 25 people, including children, have been rescued alive after a boat carrying Rohingyas fleeing from Myanmar sank. The BGB rescue operation is underway at sea.
Locals said that a BGB member saw a boat carrying Rohingyas fleeing from Myanmar floating in the sea in the Shahparir Dwip Paschim Para area of ​​Teknaf. The missing BGB member boarded the boat. The fishermen led by Shaker Majhi on a fishing boat owned by local resident Mohammad Amin gave a signal to stop the boat carrying Rohingyas. At that time, the boat sank in the rough sea waves. Local fishermen and BGB rescued 25 Rohingyas, including women and children, due to their screams. Later, a search was conducted in the sea in search of the Rohingyas, including the missing BGB member. The rescued Rohingyas said that there were more than fifty people on the sunken boat.
Teknaf Upazila Executive Officer Sheikh Ehsan Uddin said, I have heard that the law enforcement agencies are working on this matter.
