POBNEWS24 Dhaka Mar 26, 2025 : March 26 is the Independence and National Day. Detailed programs have been taken at the national level to celebrate the day with due dignity. BGB has carried out a comprehensive program. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has celebrated Independence and National Day 2025 with due dignity and enthusiasm, maintaining the sanctity of the holy month of Ramadan.
To celebrate the day, the national flag was officially hoisted in all BGB units across the country including the BGB headquarters in Peelkhana. At sunrise, BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui participated in the wreath-laying ceremony at the Savar National Memorial by His Excellency the President and the Honorable Chief Advisor. Then, the BGB Director General paid tribute to the martyrs of the great Liberation War by placing a wreath at the ‘Border Glory’ in Peelkhana. At this time, a well-equipped team of BGB provided the ‘Guard of Honor’.
To celebrate the great independence and national day, iftar mahfil and preeti bhoj were organized at all BGB establishments across the country, including the BGB headquarters in Peelkhana. After the Maghrib prayers, special prayers were offered at all BGB mosques across the country, including the BGB headquarters, for the peace, prosperity of the nation, the development and progress of the country, the peace of the souls of the martyrs of the great Liberation War, and the further progress and unity of the BGB.
On the occasion of the great Independence Day, an essay competition titled ‘BGB’s Contribution to the Liberation War’ was organized with the participation of BGB officers and other rank-and-file members working in all regions, sectors, battalions and institutions across the country, including the BGB headquarters.
Among other programs on the day, colorful illuminations were displayed at important BGB installations across the country, including the BGB headquarters, and the gates of all units and the areas and installations around the roads adjacent to the gates were decorated with national flags, various banners and festoons.
Earlier, to commemorate the Genocide Day on 25 March 2025, special prayers and supplications were offered after Isha prayers in memory of the martyrs killed in the brutal massacre of the barbaric Pakistani occupying forces on the night of 25 March 1971 and to pray for the peace of their souls. As part of the national program, a symbolic ‘blackout’ program was observed for 01 minute from 10.30 pm to 10.31 am at all regions, sectors, battalions and institutions, including the BGB headquarters.
It is worth noting that Independence Day is celebrated across the country on 26 March. The day began with a 41-minute gun salute at midnight. Since the declaration of independence from the Kalurghat radio station in Chittagong against the Pakistani army in 1971, freedom fighters from all over the country had joined the liberation war. The final victory was achieved on December 16. On the occasion of the day, various social and political organizations celebrated the day with due dignity. Police have detained 3 people for raising the slogan “Jai Bangla” from the Savar National Memorial.
