POBNEWS24, Dhaka, June 5, 2025 : Bangladesh became agitated again on Tuesday night regarding the policy decision of a law on the Liberation War and Muttijoddhas. Conscious civic organizations, left-wing political parties and Facebook users raised a storm of criticism and protested in various ways. Media workers related to the media in Bangladesh also spoke out through writing. Later, the Chief Advisor’s press wing severely blamed the media. It threatened that action would be taken against the media that published the news. The negative people are also criticizing such threats as being against independent journalism. Nevertheless, there is one consolation in the ordinance, which can be said to be quite satisfactory for those who hold the spirit of the Liberation War to some extent. Because the issue of those defeated forces of 1971 has stirred the minds of the people in a new way. The Yunus government has completely reached a policy decision. But the question is, will the Yunus government take any action against them? Can it take action?
Those whose names have been mentioned as collaborators or friends of the Pakistani army and invaders are Razakars, Al-Badr, Al-Shams, the then Muslim League, Jamaat-e-Islami, Nezam-e-Islam and Dalal and Peace Committee.
It is said in the law that Jamaat-e-Islami was an collaborator of the Pakistani army and invaders. As a result, their role came to the fore again in 1971. But the question has arisen whether the government will take any action against them.
When asked whether the government will take any action against Jamaat-e-Islami, Advisor to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs Farak-e-Azam said, no, no, the government will not take any action. We said they (Jamaat) were there. This is historical evidence.
But when asked whether they are still doing politics in Bangladesh and whether it is natural for such questions to arise because of this, he said, they (Jamaat) have to explain it. Why are they doing politics, what did they do then, their opinion has to be made known to the people. However, they were collaborators of the Pakistanis at that time – it is true. They have to take responsibility for this.
Regarding the list of martyred intellectuals and Razakars, the advisor said, there is a lot of controversy about these. We have formed a committee to verify and select, they are looking into it.
Regarding Jamaat-e-Islami, historian, researcher and brave freedom fighter Mohiuddin Ahmed said, “This government will not take action against Jamaat-e-Islami, because this government does not have that moral strength or morale. It has to have moral strength, it has to have courage. Who will take action against whom?
How much impact will this have on politics? Dhaka University professor Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah said on this, “I do not think it will have any impact for now. But there will be discussions. The reality is that history cannot be erased. And no matter how hard one tries, the real truth remains somewhere or the other. For example, the name of Jamaat is in the new law.
And this government will not take action against them. They are implementing the agenda of Jamaat,” he said.
