POBNEWS24, Desk report Dhaka, July 23,2025 : India is going to resume issuing tourist visas for Chinese citizens after a long period of almost five years. The Indian Embassy in Beijing has announced that this process will be officially launched from next Thursday (July 24). According to news agency Reuters.
Earlier, China had resumed issuing visas for Indian tourists from March this year. In that continuation, India also took similar steps.
China’s Foreign Ministry has described India’s decision as a ‘positive’ step. They said that Beijing is interested in continuing discussions to improve India-China relations. It is worth noting that recently, Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar visited China on two separate official visits and met Chinese President Xi Jinping there. India took this decision soon after this.
It is worth noting that in April 2020, tensions started over the intrusion of Chinese troops across the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in various areas of eastern Ladakh. On June 15, 20 Indian soldiers were killed in a clash with Chinese forces in the Galwan Valley. Tensions between the two countries have been high since that incident.
As a result, India took several diplomatic and administrative steps, including imposing restrictions on Chinese investment, banning popular Chinese apps, and tightening reciprocal visa policies. At that time, China also stopped issuing visas to citizens of many countries, including India, on the pretext of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Although China relaxed its restrictions somewhat in 2022, Indian students studying in universities in that country were unable to return and attend regular classes because the necessary permits were not obtained. Despite repeated Indian concerns about this, China did not respond. As a result, India also stopped issuing visas to Chinese tourists in response.
However, in the context of recent political contacts and diplomatic discussions, the ice has finally started to melt. Both countries are gradually taking steps to normalize relations. And as a major sign of this, India has now announced the introduction of tourist visas for Chinese tourists.
