POBNEWS24, Cox s Bazar Aug 2, 2025 : Five people, including a woman and a child, were killed in an auto-rickshaw collision in Ramu, Cox’s Bazar. Four of them were from the same family.
The accident occurred at around 1:30 pm on Saturday when the Dhaka-bound Cox’s Bazar Express hit the auto-rickshaw at a rail crossing in Ramu’s Rashidnagar area.
The deceased are Renu Ara (35), a resident of Purba Gomatoli area of Pokkhali union in Cox’s Bazar Sadar upazila, her sister Asma Ara (13), Renu Ara’s two sons, Ashek Ullah and Ata Ullah, aged three and one-and-a-half years, and the auto-rickshaw driver, Habib Ullah (40), son of Syed Nur, of Eidgaon Meherghona area.
Rashidnagar UP member Bodi Alam said that the auto-rickshaw crossed the Rashidnagar rail crossing and went over the railway line when the Cox’s Bazar Express hit it.
“At that time, the auto-rickshaw got stuck in front of the train and dragged it for about half a kilometer. The bodies of the deceased were scattered in different places.”
Assistant Station Master of Ramu Railway Station Akhter Hossain said, “The accident site is 12 kilometers away from my station. It is probably a level crossing.
“Since the level crossings are small, there are no gates or barriers here. However, warning and instruction boards are installed. Gate barriers are there at large crossings.”
He also said, “After this accident, the Cox’s Bazar Express train has left for its destination. But the tourist express from Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar was stopped by angry locals in the Panirchhara area of Ramu.
At that time, RAB police and army members worked to control the situation. Later, the locals released the train at 4:50 pm.
Assistant Station Master Akhter Hossain also said that the train has reached Cox’s Bazar.
