POBNEWS24, Chittagonj July 4, 2025 : Former Bangladesh Army Chief M Harun-or-Rashid has died. His body was recovered from the residential room of the Chittagong Club on Monday afternoon. He was in the room at night. In the morning, when there was no response, the room was opened and he was found unconscious.
Chittagong Club Chief Executive Officer Ashraf Uddin confirmed the matter to the media. He said, “Former Army Chief M Harun-or-Rashid was alone in a room of the club’s guesthouse. The club’s people were worried when he did not come out of the room for a long time today. After 12 noon, the lock of the room was opened in the presence of police and law enforcement officers and he was rescued unconscious. He also said that doctors believe that he died of a heart attack in the room at night.”
Abdul Karim, officer-in-charge of Chattogram Sadar Police Station, told Prothom Alo this afternoon that a team of doctors from the Combined Military Hospital Chittagong came to the Chittagong Club and examined the former army chief. Later, they declared the former army chief dead. Initially, they said it was a natural death. M Harun-or-Rashid was born in 1948. He is a resident of Hathazari, Chittagong. Harun-or-Rashid was a brave freedom fighter. Apart from being the army chief, he was also an ambassador. He was awarded the title of Bir Pratik for his contribution to the Liberation War.
