POBNEWS24, Dhaka Aug 3, 2025 : The National Citizen Party (NCP) has announced a 24-point manifesto, including the demand for the formulation of a new constitution to form a ‘new Bangladesh’. The party’s convener, Nahid Islam, announced the manifesto at the foot of the central Shaheed Minar on Sunday afternoon.
Before announcing the manifesto, Nahid Islam said, “Last year on this day, from this Shaheed Minar, we announced that historic one point to abolish the fascist system. The historic one point was not announced by any individual, party or organization. The one point was announced by the people of Bangladesh, by the students and the uprising masses of Bangladesh. The real announcers of the one point are the people of Bangladesh, the students and the uprising masses of Bangladesh and the martyred brothers and sisters.”
The NCP convener also said, “We announced the politics of responsibility and tolerance, we announced equality, human dignity and social justice.” I said we would establish a political settlement where dictatorship could never return.
He said, “During the July march, I said in various parts of the country that the fascist government had fallen, but we could not abolish the fascist settlement.”
The points are: (1) New Constitution and Second Republic, (2) Recognition and Trial of the July Uprising, (3) Reform of Democracy and State Institutions, (4) Justice-Based Judiciary and Law Reform, (5) Service-Oriented Administration and Corruption Eradication, (6) People-Friendly Law Enforcement, (7) Village Parliament and Local Government, (8) Independent Media and Strong Civil Society, (9) Universal Health, (10) Education Policy in Nation Building, (11) Research, Innovation and Information Technology Revolution, (12) Dignity of Religion, Community and Ethnicity, (13) Security, Rights and Empowerment of Women, (14) Human-Centered and Welfare-Oriented Economy, (15) Youth and Employment, (16) Multi-faceted Trade and Industrialization Policy, (17) Sustainable Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, (18) Rights of Workers and Farmers, (19) National Resource Management, (20) Urbanization, Transportation and Housing Planning, (21) Climate Tolerance and protection of rivers and seas, (22) dignity and rights of expatriate Bangladeshis, (23) pro-Bangladeshi foreign policy and (24) national defense strategy.
After the announcement, Nahid Islam said, “Exactly one year ago today, at this Shaheed Minar, we took an oath to free this country from tyranny. Because you responded to that call, we all defeated the fascist regime and took back our authority over the country. Today, once again, from this Shaheed Minar, we call upon you – let us all together transform these historic 24 points into reality to form our Second Republic and build a new Bangladesh that is the dream of all citizens.”
