POBNEWS24, Dhaka, July 5, 2025 : The July Uprising in Bangladesh will be given state and constitutional recognition and the declaration will be included in the schedule of the revised constitution of the government elected in the next election, said Professor Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government.
He read out the July Declaration at the South Plaza of the National Parliament on Tuesday, August 5 at 5 pm, the first anniversary of the fall and flight of dictator Sheikh Hasina.
Clause 27 of the July Declaration states that the people of Bangladesh express the intention that the Student Uprising 2024 be given appropriate state and constitutional recognition and the declaration will be included in the schedule of the revised constitution of the government elected in the next election.
In the July Declaration, the Chief Advisor said, the people of Bangladesh express their strong intention to quickly and appropriately prosecute the crimes of disappearances, murder, genocide, crimes against humanity and all kinds of torture, oppression and looting of state property committed by the fascist Awami League government during the past 16 years of long anti-fascist movement and struggle and during the July 2024 mass uprising, therefore, the people of Bangladesh declare all the martyrs of the July mass uprising as ‘national heroes’ and express their intention to provide all necessary support to the families of the martyrs, injured fighters and the protesting students.
Meanwhile, day-long celebrations are underway on Tuesday, August 5, the anniversary of the fall of the Awami League government through the mass uprising, at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital to mark the ‘July Mass Uprising Day’. On this day last year, a helicopter balloon was flown on Tuesday at the moment when ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled. The organizers said that the balloons were flown to commemorate the day Sheikh Hasina escaped.
At exactly 2:25 pm, the balloons flew away from the hands of hundreds of spectators.
On this day last year, Hasina fled to India by helicopter at exactly 2:25 pm. A July fighter named Shahriar Hasan said that this helicopter balloon was flown to commemorate that moment.
Another named Riyadul Bin Rifat said that the fascist Hasina was forced to flee due to fear of the students and the public. We are commemorating the moment of her escape. This is a different kind of happy moment.
On the other hand, the students and the public have carried out a symbolic hanging ceremony of Sheikh Hasina as the mastermind of the BDR, Shapla and the July 24 massacre.
At 10:30 am, the hanging was carried out publicly in front of the National Press Club under the organization of ‘Jagrat July and July Unity’.
Former army officer Lieutenant Colonel Hasinur Rahman, Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, former central coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement and organizer of July Oikya, AB Zubayer, organizer and journalist of July Oikya, Israfil Farazi, senior vice president of Jagrat July Shamim Hamidi, and people from various organizations and professions were present at the time.
Advocate Tanzina Ferdous, legal affairs secretary of Jagrat July, announced Hasina’s symbolic hanging verdict.
Before the hanging, Raihan Madraji checked her blood pressure and heart rate, Alif Jawfi played the role of the executioner, July Oikya organizer Mustafa Hossain recited the Kalima, and Aziz Saifullah directed the execution.
The event was presided over by the founding general secretary and spokesperson of Jagrat July, poet Munshi Borhan Mahmud.
Before the verdict was executed, the speakers said, “Today we are symbolically hanging Sheikh Hasina. Let it not be limited to symbolism. We know that the legal framework of Bangladesh is very messy. It takes a long time for the verdict to be implemented. We want you to complete all the activities within the next one year and complete the hanging of all the mass murderers including Sheikh Hasina by July 36, the second anniversary of the mass uprising.”
