POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Nov 24,2025 : Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Faruk E Azam, Bir Protik, today said peace is one of the hardest achievements, whether in national life, society or at the personal level.

“Establishing peace is a multidimensional task. It does not come in a day, it grows gradually through personal behaviour, family relations, social values, state institutions and the wider global system,” he said.

He made the remarks while speaking at the ‘National Peace Facilitator Conference 2025’ organised by The Hunger Project Bangladesh at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in the capital’s Agargaon, participated by over three hundred members of Peace Facilitator Groups.

Faruk said a society that nurtures justice, humanity, etiquette, compassion and responsibility builds the foundation for sustainable peace. The theme of the conference, “Building a Bangladesh of Peace and Harmony, Not Conflict”, is closely tied to that aspiration, he added.

Terming The Hunger Project’s peace-building approach timely, he said intolerance, tension and unrest in society are rooted in long-standing deprivation and resentment. “The mass uprising we witnessed in July 2024 reflected a collective outcry against injustice, discrimination and disorder,” he said.

He noted that although peace is a universal desire, the path toward it often requires grappling with difficult realities. “To establish enduring peace, it is essential to reinforce justice, accountability, sacrifice, equality and humanity,” he said.

Peace, he added, cannot be institutionalised through policy alone. Families, political parties, educational institutions, local government bodies, religious organisations, the media and individuals must all engage actively. “Peace-building is a social process driven by people’s thinking, values and behaviour,” he said.

Faruk said every individual can serve as a strong pillar of peace.

“I believe the dedication of those working quietly at the grassroots will strengthen the foundations of stability, understanding and humanity. If we can cultivate a mindset of peace within individuals and communities, national development will accelerate, social cooperation will grow and we will be able to build a safe, stable and humane Bangladesh,” he said.

Citizens for Good Governance-SHUJAN Secretary Dr Badiul Alam Majumder, Director General of the NGO Affairs Bureau Md Daud Mia, Dhaka University researcher Dr Meghna Guhathakurta and British High Commission Political Counselor Timothy Duckett also spoke at the event, chaired by Peace Ambassador of Paba Upazila Peace Facilitator Group in Rajshahi, Sheikh Md Maqbul Hossain.
