POBNEWS24, Dhaka Dec 22, 2025 : Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka, Pranay Verma, visited the Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) located at Jamuna Future Park. During this time, he observed the progress of visa services and spoke to visa applicants.
The Indian High Commission in Dhaka said that the Indian High Commissioner visited IVAC on Monday morning.
Last week, due to a serious threat to the Indian High Commission and its facilities in Bangladesh, the activities of IVAC, Jamuna Future Park were closed for a day. It was later reopened and alternative slots were soon provided to those applicants whose appointments were cancelled.
Many visa applicants are going to India for treatment of serious illnesses. Keeping this humanitarian need in mind and despite the improved security situation, the Indian High Commission has kept the visa centres in Dhaka, Khulna, Sylhet and Rajshahi open. However, the IVAC in Chittagong is temporarily closed. The Assistant High Commission in Chittagong was closed on the night of 18-19 December due to mob attacks, stone pelting and threats to break the entrance.
During the inspection, IVAC officials raised the issue of large number of fake documents being submitted and artificial traffic being created on the visa server by brokers and touts depriving ordinary applicants of slots. The High Commissioner assured to raise these concerns with the concerned authorities in Bangladesh. However, a decision will be taken to fully operationalise all Indian Visa Application Centres (IVACs) in Bangladesh as the situation improves, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka said.
