POBNEWS24 Dhaka Dec 23, 2025 : Playwright Dr. Mukid Chowdhury has been honored with the Cumilla Kobi Parishad (CUKC) Literary Award 2025 for his special contribution to stage theatre. The award was announced recently on 18 December 2025 by CUKC Founder President R. Mujib and President Abdul Latif.
R. Mujib stated that since 2022, the organization has been conferring literary awards and honors in various categories. As part of this ongoing initiative, Dr. Mukid Chowdhury has been selected this year for the award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to stage theatre. The literary award along with a monetary honorarium will be presented at a grand ceremony to be held in Dhaka on 26 December 2025.
Reacting to his selection for the Cumilla Kobi Parishad Literary Award 2025, playwright Dr. Mukid Chowdhury, regarded as the pioneer of the Bangla Movement Theatre art form, said, “Stage theatre attracts me deeply. I have been working in theatre since 1996. My plays have been staged in Bangladesh, India, and Great Britain. Personally, I feel a strong affinity for the new-stream Bangla Movement Theatre art form. Essentially, this art form aims to easily involve those who have never performed on stage in theatrical presentation. The Cumilla Kobi Parishad Literary Award and Honor 2025 will further inspire me to undertake new and innovative works based on the Bangla Movement Theatre art form.”
It may be mentioned that Dr. Mukid Chowdhury is the youngest son of rebel fiction writer Abdur Rauf Chowdhury and Shirin Chowdhury. He is a versatile personality-scientist, novelist, essayist, playwright, and poet-and has made significant contributions across almost every field of Bengali literature.
