POBNEWS24, Dhaka Dec 31, 2025 : The activities of militant organization Hizbut Tahrir have increased recently in Bangladesh. There was an incident of putting up posters of the banned organization Hizbut Tahrir in public in Kurigram, North Bengal district of the country. On Wednesday afternoon, after the organization’s poster titled ‘Open Letter’ was put up at the College intersection and the gate of the District Council building in the district town, the police and intelligence agencies were shaken. Later, the District Police’s Detective Branch (DB) conducted a raid on a minibus bound for Rangpur from Kurigram and arrested five university students on suspicion of being members of the organization. DB’s Kurigram Officer-in-Charge (OC) Bazlar Rahman confirmed this information in the evening.
DB police sources said that posters of the banned organization Hizbut Tahrir were put up at several places including the College intersection in the district town on Wednesday afternoon. Immediately after receiving this news, the police and intelligence departments launched raids in different parts of the city. Later, the DB stopped a Rangpur-bound minibus from a place adjacent to Khalilganj Bazar and arrested five suspected youths in the bus.
The detainees are Jaber Al Rafian (30), Sakibul Hasan (24), Shamim Hossain (25), Fahmid Hasan (34) and Mahmudur Rahman (25). The DB police said that they are students of various universities in Dhaka.
The DB said that the involvement of the youths has been confirmed by analyzing the CCTV camera footage of the place where the posters were put up. They had come from Dhaka and were working on propaganda for the banned organization Hizb ut Tahrir. Their homes are in Jessore, Dhaka, Laxmipur, Natore and Madaripur districts of Bangladesh. Initial interrogation revealed that they are students of various private universities in Dhaka.
Later, the police removed the posters put up by the detained youths. Immediately after the arrest of the five youths, several policemen were seen removing the pasted posters.
Superintendent of Police Khandaker Fazle Rabbi said, “Five youths have been arrested on charges of putting up posters of the banned Hizb ut Tahrir. During initial interrogation, they admitted to putting up the posters. Further interrogation is being conducted. Action will be taken against the accused under the Anti-Terrorism Act.”
