India-Bangladesh bilateral relations can be further strengthened for development: Prannoy Verma

POBNEWS24, Dhaka Mar 8:, 2026:  Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka Prannoy Verma has assured to resolve the problems that have arisen with the major projects being implemented with India’s loan assistance. He said that both countries are satisfied with the progress of the ongoing projects between the two countries. However, efforts are being made to resolve the major projects that are facing problems.
He told reporters after a meeting with Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury at the Secretariat on Sunday.
The Indian High Commissioner said that he had a very positive and fruitful discussion with the Finance Minister. The meeting discussed strengthening cooperation in the financial sector between the two countries, expanding economic relations and various issues of mutual interest.
Responding to a question about the progress of the projects being implemented under India’s loan assistance program, he claimed that the progress of the projects is satisfactory. Although there are some initial problems in the major projects, initiatives have been taken to resolve them. Overall, both sides are satisfied with the progress of the projects.
He said that the meeting also discussed the priority issues of the financial sector of Bangladesh. In particular, the issue of facilitating business, tax reform and increasing the use of technology to ensure more people participate in economic activities has gained importance.
Prannoy Verma said that he informed the Finance Minister about India’s experience in increasing financial inclusion through digital public infrastructure. There was also an exchange of views on how economic participation can be made more inclusive through technology.
He said that the meeting also discussed development cooperation projects of the two countries.
Regarding trade, the Indian High Commissioner said that discussions were held on deepening trade and economic relations between Bangladesh and India. Emphasis was also given to expanding trade and commerce by making the existing communication system by sea, land and air more effective and easy.
He said that cooperation between businessmen of the two countries will increase if various processes are simplified as part of facilitating business. This will not only increase the volume of bilateral trade, but also increase Bangladesh’s exports to the Indian market.
He also said that there were discussions on further linking the economies of the two countries at the bilateral and regional levels.
Prannoy Verma expressed hope that there will be positive and constructive discussions in the future on the possibility of using ports between Bangladesh and India. He said that it is possible to further strengthen bilateral relations in the future based on the national development priorities of the two countries, new ideas, technology and people-centered cooperation.
