Bangaon (West Beagal), Mar 8, 2026 : The Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police in India has announced the arrest of Faisal Karim Masud, the main accused in the murder of Inquilab Manch convener Osman Hadi, and his associate Alamgir. This information was revealed by intelligence sources on Sunday evening.
There was confidential and credible information that two Bangladeshi nationals had illegally entered India after committing serious crimes like extortion and murder in Bangladesh and were trying to take refuge in the Bangaon border area to return to Bangladesh at the earliest opportunity.
Based on this information, a drive was conducted in the early hours of Sunday
and two Bangladeshi nationals were arrested from Bangaon area on Sunday night. The arrested persons are Rahul Faisal Karim Masud (37), a resident of Patuakhali, Bangladesh, and Alamgir Hossain (34), a resident of Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Initial interrogation revealed that Rahul alias Faisal Karim Masud, along with Alamgir Hossain, killed a Bangladeshi political activist Osman Hadi and fled. They illegally entered Indian territory through the Meghalaya border and moved through various parts of India and finally arrived in Bangaon, West Bengal to return to Bangladesh.
A specific case has been filed in this regard at Bangaon Police Station. They were sent to police custody after being produced in the relevant court on Sunday. It is learnt that further detailed investigation is being conducted in this regard.
Sharif Osman Hadi was the convener of Inqilab Manch. He had announced to contest as an independent candidate from Dhaka-8 constituency and started campaigning. He was shot on December 12. He died while undergoing treatment in Singapore on December 18. He was a fighter in the eyes of his comrades in the July Uprising.
Protest marches were held in various parts of the country including the capital Dhaka following the attack on Osman Hadi. The day after the announcement of the schedule for the 13th National Parliament elections, various political parties and organizations condemned and protested the attack on Osman Hadi.
On December 13, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) announced the identification of a suspect in the shooting of Osman Hadi.
Police and RAB officials said that the name of the person who directly shot Osman Hadi is Faisal Karim Masud alias Daud Khan alias Rahul. He was the leader of the banned Awami League’s student wing, Chhatra League.
The police headquarters sent his photo and information to law enforcement forces on duty at the border, seaports and airports.
Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury announced a reward of Tk 5 million for the arrest of the person who shot him.
The police said that a total of six people have been arrested in connection with the attack. They are Faisal’s wife Shaheda, brother-in-law Wahid, girlfriend Maria, Hannan, suspected of being the owner of the motorcycle, and Sanjay Chisim and Simiron Deo, accused of helping him escape to India.
