POBNEWS24, Dhaka Apr 5, 2026 : Horses are being slaughtered and sold freely in Bangladesh. In protest of this incident, a human chain was held in Shahbagh, Dhaka, demanding a state-wide ban on the purchase and sale of horse meat.
‘Save the Nature of Bangladesh’ organized this human chain at 3 pm on Monday at Shagbagh Square.
The participants in the human chain demanded that a law be quickly enacted and effective steps be taken to stop the sale and marketing of horse meat.
The speakers said that horses are a beneficial and traditional animal. Therefore, the commercial sale of their meat should be stopped. They called on the concerned authorities to take immediate action in this regard.
Adnan Azad, convener of the Bangladesh Animal Welfare Association and wildlife expert, said in the human chain, “Recently, some unscrupulous groups have been slaughtering horses and selling them as beef. Again, in some places it is being sold directly as horse meat, which is a very disgusting act. He said, “It is necessary to ban the purchase and sale of horse meat in the country at the state level.” The human chain also demanded an end to animal cruelty by using horse-drawn tom-toms in the name of tradition. They strongly demanded the government to take immediate and effective action in this regard.
