POBNEWS24, Dhaka Apr 5, 2026 : Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma on Monday paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Prime Minister Tareque Rahman. The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Secretariat this morning. They discussed bilateral engagement with emphasis on people-centric cooperation in various areas in line with the national development priorities of the two countries.
The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in various areas including public health, financial inclusion, women empowerment, rural development, bilateral trade and investment, ease of doing business, technology partnerships and power and energy cooperation.
The High Commissioner stressed that India-Bangladesh cooperation should transform their geographical proximity into new opportunities by strengthening economic and connectivity ties and increasing cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
The High Commissioner expressed India’s intention to work positively, constructively and visionarily with the government and people of Bangladesh on the basis of mutual interests and benefits.
Meanwhile, the current BNP government wants to change the course of relations during the tenure of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and start a completely new chapter with India.
On the other hand, Foreign Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir told reporters after a courtesy call by Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Secretariat on Monday morning.
The advisor said that the energy security of the two countries was discussed in the meeting. In particular, the issue of importing diesel through pipelines from India has gained prominence.
Humayun Kabir said, “If positive relations are maintained between the two countries, many problems can be resolved. We are hopeful of taking forward the process of importing energy through pipelines.”
Citing the former Awami League government, the Foreign Affairs Advisor said, “The kind of relations that existed during Sheikh Hasina’s tenure will no longer exist. That chapter is over now.’
Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and the Prime Minister’s Advisor are leaving for India on Tuesday (April 7) to attend the upcoming ‘Indian Ocean Conference’. There is a possibility of important meetings with the Indian Foreign Minister and the Minister of Security during this visit.
Humayun Kabir said that all issues related to the country’s interests, especially the end of border killings and other unresolved issues, will be discussed during the visit.
