POBNEWS24, Dhaka May 22, 2026 : The Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) has held a protest rally in Dhaka Metropolitan North demanding exemplary punishment for those involved in the rape and murder of seven-year-old child Ramisa Akhter in the Pallabi area of the Bangladesh capital and ensuring the safety of children and women across the country. CPB Dhaka Metropolitan North President Comrade Hasan Hafizur Rahman Sohel presided over the protest rally held at 11:30 on Friday. CPB Central Committee President Comrade Sajjad Zahir Chandan, former CPB General Secretary Comrade Ruhin Hossain Prince, General Secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan North Comrade Luna Noor, former CPB Dhaka Metropolitan North President Comrade Dr. Sajedul Haque Rubel, CPB Dhaka Metropolitan North editorial board member Comrade Lucky Akhter, CPB Dhaka Metropolitan North women’s wing member Monowara Begum and other leaders. Editorial board member Motaleb Hossain conducted the rally.
At the rally, Comrade Sajjad Zahir Chandan said, “Due to the culture of injustice, incidents of violence against women and children are increasing at an alarming rate in the country. Due to social degradation and weak implementation of the law, criminals are getting the courage to commit such heinous crimes again and again. The frustration and anger of Ramisa’s family is a reflection of that reality.” They demanded that those involved in the incident be immediately arrested and the maximum punishment be ensured through a speedy trial tribunal.
Former CPB General Secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince said at the protest rally, “I have come here with an angry heart over the recent incidents of violence against women, including Ramisa. This is a picture of where our society has gone today. I want exemplary punishment for the monstrous person who did this.
Earlier, on Tuesday (May 19) morning, a seven-year-old child, Ramisa Akhter, a second-grade student, was brutally murdered after being raped in Pallabi, Mirpur, in the capital. The child was beheaded with a sharp knife in the third floor of a five-story building on Road-7, adjacent to Millat Camp, Section-11 of Pallabi Police Station.
Ramisa’s family has been living in that building for 17 years. Ramisa’s father, Abdul Hannan Mollah, works in a recruiting agency. Mother, Parveen Akhter. Ramisa is the younger of the two daughters. That morning, Ramisa had left for school. She was not sent to school and returned home at around 10:30 am. When she did not return, the family started searching. Ramisa’s mother found Ramisa’s sandals in front of the door of the next-door flat.
Finding her nowhere outside, she knocked on the closed door of the next-door house but got no response. Later, 999 was called. The police broke the door and entered, stunned. Ramisa’s headless body was recovered from under the bed of the flat and her severed head was found in a bucket in the bathroom.
The police believe that the child was a victim of a neighbor’s perverted sexual desire. She was strangled to death for fear that the torture or bleeding would become known. Later, the child’s head and hands were cut off in order to hide the evidence and hide the body. Meanwhile, Sohel Rana, the accused arrested in the rape and brutal murder of child Ramisa Akhter, has given a confessional statement in court. His wife Swapna Akhter has also been sent to jail in the same case. The police produced the arrested main accused Sohel Rana in court on Wednesday. Later, he voluntarily confessed When he agreed to give his statement, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junaid recorded his statement. He was then ordered to be sent to jail. On the other hand, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Ashraful Haque ordered to send Swapna Akhter, the wife of Sohel Rana, who was arrested in the same incident, to jail.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman met the parents of the child who was raped and murdered.
The Prime Minister went to the child’s house on Thursday night. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman were with her at the time.
The Prime Minister assured to ensure a fair and speedy investigation into the murder and rape incident.
Earlier, two ministers of the Bangladesh government had directed to bring those responsible for the rape and murder incident to justice quickly.
The incident has sparked protests across Bangladesh. Students of educational institutions have left the institutions and taken to the streets again like before. School students in the divisional cities of Chittagong, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna Protests were held throughout the day on Friday.
The Bangladesh Workers’ Party has also demanded exemplary punishment for the incident.
