POBNEWS24, Dhaka July 11, 2026 : The long-standing cooperation between Bangladesh and Russia in the education, research, science and energy sectors has reached a new level. Since independence, important aspects of the relationship between the two countries include providing scholarships in higher education, exchanging technical knowledge and partnering in infrastructure development. Experts say that these initiatives are playing an important role in building skilled human resources in Bangladesh and ensuring energy security.
Every year, more than a hundred Bangladeshi students are getting higher education opportunities in various universities of the country under various scholarship programs of the Russian government. Undergraduate, postgraduate and research opportunities have been created in various subjects including medicine, engineering, information technology, agriculture, space science, nuclear technology and basic sciences. Many students are working efficiently in government and private institutions, universities and research organizations after returning home.
According to academicians, modern laboratories, science-based education and an international standard research environment in Russian universities are opening new possibilities for Bangladeshi students. As a result, the education and research cooperation between the two countries is becoming stronger.
One of the largest projects of Bangladesh-Russia cooperation is the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna. This project, implemented with technical and financial assistance from Russia, has been built with the aim of increasing the country’s power generation capacity.
A total of 2,400 MW of electricity will be generated from the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant. By the end of August 2026, 300 MW of electricity will be experimentally connected to the national grid from the first unit. It is then expected to increase production in stages and supply a full 1,200 MW of electricity to the national grid from the first unit by December 2026.
If the two units of the project are fully operational, a significant amount of electricity will be added to the national grid, which is expected to make a significant contribution to the country’s energy security and industrialization in the long term.
According to analysts, such cooperation in developing energy infrastructure, in addition to investing in education and research, is important for the sustainable development of Bangladesh. They believe that in the future, joint initiatives between Bangladesh and Russia can be further expanded in the fields of artificial intelligence, information technology, renewable energy, medical research and high-tech.
According to diplomatic analysts, Bangladesh-Russia relations are likely to deepen further in the coming days based on mutual interests, educational exchange and technical cooperation. They believe that this partnership in higher education, research and energy development will help to further accelerate the country’s economic progress.
Recently, Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow. High-level discussions took place between the two countries in the Moscow meeting.
Therefore, diplomatic analysts expect the relations between the two countries to expand to a higher level.
