POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Aug 27, 2021: At least 17 people died and several others remained missing as a passenger carrying trawler capsized in Laiskar Beel under Sadar upazila in Brahamanbaria district on Friday afternoon.
The identities of the victims could not be known immediately.
The trawler, carrying over 50 passengers, capsized in the Beel at about 5:45pm while it was on way to the district town from Jaynagar area of the district, Brahamanbaria police station officer-in-charge Md Emranul Islam told New Age from the spot.
He said that they had sent four bodies that were found immediately after the capsize to Brahamanbaria Sadar Hospital morgue and eight more bodies were later found.
Bodies of the eight people including six women and two children are now on the spot, he said.
‘On information from the locals, we rushed to the spot and began the rescue operation. Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel are also conducting the search operation,’ he said.
