POBNEWS24, Dhaka Sep 20, 2021 :A few days ago, Virat Kohli announced that he would relinquish the captaincy of India’s T20 team after the T20 World Cup. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has blamed Kohli for the incident. Yesterday, Kohli announced that he would no longer captain his franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL after this season.
The question arose soon after Kohli left the leadership of India’s T20 team. A former BCCI official raised the question. He said that if Kohli relinquished the captaincy of the country’s T20 team, he should also relinquish the captaincy of the IPL franchise.
If international cricket is under pressure, then the IPL, the most competitive T20 league in the world, is no less stressful, as should the captaincy of Bengaluru, he said.
The official said that while Kohli played only six Twenty20 matches for India in 2020, he played many more matches for RCB in the IPL. His argument was that even if Kohli leaves the captaincy of the Indian T20 team and since he is leading the Test and ODI team, he is not leaving the leadership of the RCB in the IPL, then the pressure is much less!
Popular commentator Hersha Vogel also tweeted that his idea was to leave India’s T20 leadership as well as Kohli’s IPL leadership, which would free him from the pressure of leadership for the next two months.
These words may have reached Kohli’s ears. Whether that is the reason or not, Kal announced in a video on Twitter in Bangalore yesterday that he is also stepping down as the captain of the IPL next season. “I want to let everyone know that this is my last season at RCB as a captain,” he said. I talked to everyone on the team this afternoon (yesterday). I have been thinking about this decision for some time.
Kohli said his resignation was part of a series of “reductions”. “A few days ago, I announced my resignation from the captaincy of the Indian T20 team,” he said. I did this so that the burden of responsibility that had been on me for many years would be lessened. I want to fulfill my responsibilities well. I want to keep myself fresh, I want to be stronger mentally. ‘
Although he is not the captain, he said that he will be in RCB in future. He said, ‘RCB will go through some more changes ahead. The big auction is coming. But I can’t imagine myself outside of this team. I have been responsible to RCB from day one.
Kohli is not at all successful as a captain in IPL. RCB could not bring the IPL title even once. RCB has played in the final only once under him. The first play-off came in 2016. He was already criticized enough as the captain of RCB.
