POBNEWS24, Dhaka Dec 1, 2021 : BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that the ruling Awami League government has removed Khaleda Zia from politics.

Mirza Fakhrul made the allegation while addressing a protest rally of the Nationalist Women’s Party in front of the BNP’s central office at Naya Paltan in the capital on Wednesday demanding release of Khaleda Zia and her deportation abroad.

BNP secretary general said, ‘Why the government does not want to let Khaleda Zia (abroad) go? They talk about the law. The law states that the government may release him if it so desires. Obstacles are not laws, obstacles are the government. This illegitimate government has removed her (Khaleda Zia) from politics.

Addressing the leaders and activists of the Nationalist Women’s Party, Mirza Fakhrul said, “Mothers and sisters should be awakened by going from house to house.” The government is depriving people of the right to vote, the right to speak, the fundamental right. The freedoms that were achieved in 1971, the free society, the freedom to speak, the freedom to organize, have been looted by this Awami League government. At a different juncture, they want to establish a one-party system of governance here. In order to bring back freedom and democracy, we have to fight at the risk of our lives to free Khaleda Zia and bring Tareq Rahman back to the country.

Attempts were made to hold a silent procession organized by the women’s group at the beginning of the protest rally. At that time, the police detained the leaders and workers in front of the party office. They also tried to march at the end of the rally. The police also stopped him. In this context, the BNP secretary general said, the government is afraid of the silent procession.

Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, senior joint secretary general of the BNP central committee, and Selima Rahman, a member of the standing committee, spoke at the rally, which was chaired by Mahila Dal president Afroza Abbas.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Motijheel Zone ADC Enamul Haque told reporters that the women’s party was not allowed to march due to lack of permission and traffic congestion. Even then they rallied in front of the party office.

Traffic on the Naya Paltan area was limited due to the women’s group’s program. At this time a large presence of police could be noticed in front of the BNP central office.
