POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Jan 14, 2022 : Up Bikan Express train crashes in Domahani, Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, India. The North-East Frontier Railway issued a statement on the incident. The railway authorities said the incident was unfortunate.
Gunit Kaur, chief public relations officer of the North-East Frontier Railway, said the 15833 Bikaner-Guwahati Express train left Bikaner at around 2.15pm on Wednesday.
It derailed near New Domhni station around 5pm on Thursday. Upon receiving the news of the accident, senior railway officials rushed to the spot from New Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar in a relief train.
Rescue work started immediately after the accident. Initially, it was learned that 12 compartments of the train were derailed. Gunit said, “This is a very unfortunate incident.”
He added that there were 1,053 passengers on the train at the time of derailment. Every effort is being made to rescue those passengers. Special trains have been arranged to send the stranded passengers to their destinations.
Several trains have been diverted due to the accident.
