POBNEWS24,Dhaka Aug 26, 2022 : A national emergency has been declared in Pakistan after floods caused by heavy rains have killed 937 people so far. 343 children were among the dead in the floods. Apart from this, at least three crore people have become homeless.
Sindh Province has the highest number of casualties in Pakistan.
Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported that 306 people were killed in Sindh province from June 14 to yesterday due to floods and heavy rains.
The situation in Balochistan and Sindh province is very fragile. Bigha after bigha land has been submerged in water. According to the data provided by NDMA, 234 people have died in Balochistan and 185 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 165 in Punjab since June 14. 37 people lost their lives due to floods in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Deaths were also reported from Gilgit-Baltistan due to floods caused by heavy rains.
Pakistan’s Information and Broadcasting Minister Maryam Aurangzeb said in a statement that the country’s flood situation has become a national emergency. He also said that the government is conducting rescue operations.
Abnormal rains cause flash floods in southern Pakistan. According to NDM data, Pakistan recorded 166.8 mm rainfall in August this year.
