POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Sep 2, 2022 : Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s upcoming visit will be of ‘state’ level. And through this visit, the relationship between the two countries will be stronger. Spokesperson of India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi, said this at a briefing in New Delhi on Thursday afternoon.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will pay a state visit to India from September 5 to 8.

The Prime Minister will be given a formal ‘guard of honour’ during the visit.

Earlier in 2018, he visited India. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will meet Indian President Dhrupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar during this visit.

The spokesperson said that Sheikh Hasina will hold bilateral talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Foreign Minister Subramaniam Jaishankar will pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Sheikh Hasina may visit Ajmer.

Arindam Bagchi said that in recent years there has been high-level communication between the two countries. Bangladesh-India relations are based on mutual trust, understanding, strong historical and cultural ties.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s upcoming visit will further strengthen the multilateral relations between the two countries.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs did not confirm whether the Chief Ministers of the states will be present in the meeting with the Bangladesh delegation led by Sheikh Hasina. He said, there are few more days left for the tour. Who will be in the delegation will be finalized by then.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka said in a press release that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India is important for both countries. It will open new doors of cooperation between the two friendly countries. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be given a formal ‘guard of honour’ during this visit. Apart from this several agreements and memorandum of understanding (MOU) may be signed.

According to the concerned sources, five to seven MoUs may be signed during the Prime Minister’s visit to India. Some of these are new. Remaining MoUs may be renewed.

An official, who did not wish to be named, said that an agreement may be signed with Nepal’s GMR company to import hydropower to Bangladesh via India. An MoU may be signed between the staff colleges of the two countries on cooperation, judicial cooperation and extraction of Kushiara river water. Apart from this, MoU between Sunil Economic Affairs and MoU between Bangladesh Television and Prasar Bharti may be renewed. Discussions are underway between the two countries on two potential MoUs of the Ministry of Railways.
