By Jabadur Rahman Jabed, POBNEWS24, Panchagrah Sep 26, 2022 : Death toll rises to 39 in boat capsizing in Karotoa river at Boda Panchgrah in Bangladesh. By Monday (September 26) afternoon, fire service workers recovered the bodies of seven more people from different parts of the river.
Additional District Magistrate and Head of Investigation Committee Dipankar Roy said that seven more bodies were recovered till afternoon. Fire service personnel are conducting rescue operations. We have started the accident investigation.
He said that 21 women, seven men and 11 children are among the 39 people who died in the boat sinking. 51 more people are missing in this incident.
Assistant Deputy Director of Fire Service and Civil Defense Sheikh Md. Mahabubul Alam said that eight units of the fire service of Panchagarh and surrounding districts are conducting rescue operations. Besides, 9 divers from three teams from Rangpur, Kurigram and Rajshahi participated in the rescue work.
Among the dead are Poly Rani (14), Lakshmi Rani (25), Amal Chandra (35), Shobha Rani (27), Dipankar (5), Priyantha Rani (5), Khuki Rani (35), Pralima Rani (55), Tara Rani (24), Shoneka Rani (60), Falguni Rani (55), Pramila Rani (70), Dhanbala (47), Sumitra Rani (57), Sufalta Rani (40), Shimla Rani (35), Boatman Hasan Ali (52), Ushoshi Rani (2), Tanushree Rani (2), Shreyshi Rani (2), Bimal Chandra (45), Shyamli Rani (35), Jyotish Chandra (55) and Rupali Rani (35) have been identified.
