POBNEWS24 Dhaka, June 11, 2023 : In the current political situation of Bangladesh, there is no need for the United Nations to take any role, said the State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam. He said this in a briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday (June 11).
In response to the question whether the United Nations will be given any responsibility, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs said, “There is no need for it.” The UN is given responsibility only when the situation becomes dire. They work in war situations, civil war situations. The situation in Bangladesh was like this a long time ago.
He said, ‘A fair election is being tried and many times it is not enough. It needs to be certified and international election observers will come and see and say. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will implement the instructions that will come from the Election Commission in this regard.
When asked whether various countries and international organizations are talking about political dialogue, the state minister said that no proposal was ever given to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in this regard.
Regarding the political dialogue, he said, “I have not been a part of any such meeting in the last 9-10 years and no one told me. I am sure, no one from any country has given such a proposal to any policy maker of our Ministry of Foreign Affairs to hold a dialogue in view of the elections. No one has made any recommendation in the government during the election, even close to any framework outside the current constitution.
“I don’t know why political leaders are talking about it,” he said. But we are far from being pressured by any state or any international organization in this regard, nothing has come even in the form of a proposal.
