On June 17, 2023, Bangladesh High Commissioner Mustafizur Rahman said this in a seminar organized by the Foreign Journalists Club in New Delhi.
The High Commissioner said that Bangladesh has achieved a democratic atmosphere by facing many adverse situations. The political stability that has now arrived in the country will help to continue the trend of development.
Mustafizur Rahman spoke about Bangladesh-India relations in an event organized at the ‘Foreign Correspondents’ Club’ in the capital, New Delhi. After his initial remarks on various aspects of relations between the two countries, the question and answer session began.
In response to several questions about the new visa policy announced by the United States to make Bangladesh’s national elections fair and free, the High Commissioner said that Bangladesh is committed to making the elections fair, peaceful and free. It is also important to continue the democratic process of the country. It is also the goal of the international world including the United States. Bangladesh wants the same.
Mustafizur Rahman said Bangladesh is now stable as a democratic state. Many past national and local elections have been free and peaceful under this government. It is happening now. This achievement did not come easily. Many adverse situations have to be faced. Only political stability can continue this trend of democracy.
Are they interested in taking the help of the Election Commission of India for the sake of democracy? The High Commissioner said to the question of the journalists, Election Commission has the responsibility to conduct fair voting in Bangladesh. They will decide whether someone else needs help, support or advice.
When asked how important the help and support of India as a country is to Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman said, ‘India is our friend. The contribution of this country in the freedom struggle is undeniable. The extent of this friendship spans the last five decades. Bangladesh seeks the help and support of all friendly countries for the sake of its democracy and development. Bangladesh always expects India’s help as its closest neighbor and best friend.
In response to another question regarding the elections under the caretaker government, the Bangladeshi High Commissioner said that the government is complying with the Supreme Court’s ruling in this regard.
Highlighting the improvement in various aspects of Bangladesh-India bilateral relations, the High Commissioner said that positive progress is being observed in all areas during the tenure of Sheikh Hasina.
Sheikh Hasina is also responsible for the peace and progress of India’s north-eastern region. Her policies pacified this vast region. Placed on the stage of improvement.
