POBNEWS24,Dhaka Oct 10, 2023 : Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said today is a day of pride and joy for the people of Bangladesh. A new milestone has been added today in the development progress of the communication sector. He said these things at the inauguration ceremony of Padma Rail Bridge in Mawa area on Tuesday (October 10).
The Prime Minister also said that after 21 years, the Awami League government, after being elected by the people in 1996, took effective measures to improve the communication system.
We took the decision to connect the railway to Bangabandhu Bridge. On June 23, 1998, on the same day, we inaugurated the Bangabandhu Bridge road and rail traffic.
The Chief Minister said that we took various initiatives at that time to increase the rail network across the country. But in 2001, the BNP-Jamaat coalition came to power and started shrinking the railways.
Many railway lines were closed. Having been given the responsibility of running the state continuously since 2009, we undertook extensive planning and activities aimed at expanding the railway network and in 2011 formed a separate Ministry of Railways.
He said, we have planned to bring all the districts of the country under the rail network. Through this, by 2041, comfortable, cost-effective and environment-friendly rail communication will be established in developed-rich, smart Bangladesh.
