POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Aug 27, 2021 : A tribunal judge in Bangladesh’s northern district Joypurhat has allegedly been threatened by post ‘in the name of heroic fighter of the Taliban’.
The victim is Md. Rustam Ali, Joypurhat District Judge of Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal.
It was known that the alleged letter threatened to occupy Bangladesh like Afghanistan as soon as possible.
The letter added, “Everyone in the court must wear Taliban turban. If it is not done, then none will be allowed to go to court”.
The judge informed the district superintendent of police about the threat on Thursday afternoon.
Joypurhat district Superintendent of Police Masum Ahmed Bhuiyan confirmed receiving the allegation of threat through the letter.
“We are looking into as to who sent this letter and for what purpose. The security of judges in the district has been strengthened”, he said.
The officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station has been asked to take necessary action.The address of the sender in the envelope of the letter was mentioned as ‘Md. Ashraf Ali, Durgadaha, Vadsa, Sadar, Joypurhat.
The letter said, ‘Bangladesh will be occupied soon like Afghanistan. Trial at courts must be done according to the rules of Qur’an and Sunnah. There will be trial at every village. Sardar will be appointed for the purpose.
Nripendranath Mandal, government counsel of Joypurhat Judge’s Court and president of Joypurhat District Bar Association, told that Judge Md. Rustam Ali has got a letter by post, identifying the sender as a ‘heroic fighter of the Taliban’.
Rustam Ali received the letter on Thursday afternoon. Those who are thinking of making Bangladesh a Taliban state are in nightmares. No matter how hard they try and conspire, no one will be able to destroy Bangabandhu’s dream Bangladesh. Judges and lawyers will perform their duties independently, he said.
He, however, demanded that those who threatened the judge in the name of the Taliban must be identified and brought to justice quickly.
While commenting on the issue, Abdur Rashid, general secretary of Joypurhat district unit Communist Party, said, “I don’t think it’s the job of the Taliban. In the light of the current situation in Afghanistan, someone might have sent such a letter to the judge to create panic in Bangladesh. But we have to keep the Afghanistan issue in our mind.
He added that the letter was sent to such a place so that it could be spread very quickly. Those who sent the letter are very tactful, he said.
