POBNEWS24, Dhaka Mar 11, 2025 : Who is this so-called uncle who introduced himself as the father or relative of anti-discrimination student coordinator Noman? 59 Sonargaon Janpath Sector 7 Uttara Dhaka at this address, there is a small office of the Indian news agency UNI and the office of the English monthly ‘The Politics of Bangladesh’ newspaper. The manager of this building, Palash, has arranged for that uncle to evict Zaman in exchange for several lakhs of taka. That uncle has arranged for the coordinator of the Airport Police Station named Noman, this matter has been reported from reliable sources.

Uttara West Police Station GD No. 2377 Date: 21/02/2025

It is worth noting that journalist Mir Afroz Zaman has been living in that building since 1998. The owner of the building, the late SM Kausar, once used to do journalism, and this is his house. Mir Afroz Zaman became his associate in many difficult times. Sources say that the so-called manager Palash and the concerned uncle (Mama) want to embezzle the house. If Mir Afroz Zaman is present, there will be obstacles in embezzling the house, which is why Mir Afroz Zaman has been the victim of revenge. One of SM Kausar’s two daughters is alive. Manager Palash has made her crazy. I have learned that she lives on the second floor in a state of mental disorder. Although a GD has been filed in this regard at Uttara West Police Station, the police have not taken any action till date. Mir Afroz Zaman has been engaged in the profession of journalism for 36 years. He is a former elected leader of the Dhaka Union of Journalists and a permanent member of the National Press Club Bangladesh .

It is learnt that on the date mentioned in the GD, three motorcycle-riding men, including a coordinator named Noman of the Airport Police Station, went to Mir Afroz Zaman’s office to look for him. When he was not found, they abused him in foul language on his mobile phone and threatened to lock him up if he did not meet them within an hour. After this, journalist Zaman went to Uttara Paschim Police Station around 8 pm and filed a GD. The police have not been able to arrest anyone so far. In this incident, the Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) and the Indian Media Correspondent Association Bangladesh (IMCAB) have issued a joint statement demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits and bringing them to justice.
