POBNEWS24.Net,Dhaka, Jan 07 : Jinnatun Bakiar, wife of Bangladesh’s senior journalist Faraji Ajmal Hossain, died in Indian capital New Delhi due to doctor’s negligence in duty.

The victim’s husband lodged a written complaint with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleging medical negligence against Dr. VG Rajkumari of Apollo Hospital. But no action was taken in this regard till filing of this report today.

According to him, his wife Jinnatun died due to  extreme negligence, indifference and amateurish behavior of the physician.

Faraji said his ailing wife had undergone a kidney transplant on October 22 last year.

His wife was admitted to Delhi Apollo Hospital under the care of Dr VG who did her kidney transplant there.

She was shifted to the ICU unit of the Hospital that night after undergoing a kidney transplant. She was discharged from Hospital on October 27.

According to the doctor’s advice, she went to the hospital for some routine tests and on November 11, his wife’s body was found to have corona positive.

She was taken to the Corona ICU of the Hospital on November 20 after his wife developed shortness of breath while undergoing treatment at home.

He further added that Jinnatun was infected with Corona at the hospital during the routine examination as per the doctor’s advice. Before the operation, my wife’s corona test was done at the Apollo Hospital in Delhi and the result was negative.

The diagnostic department of the hospital did not have any special or separate arrangement for collecting blood samples or other tests for a serious patient like my wife. The environment there was not healthy at all and she had to wait in line with normal patients.

He further mentioned in the complaint that, the physician went to Chennai without any instructions in case of his wife’s crisis. After complaining to the authorities, the doctor was forced to return to Delhi.

After the return, the doctor showed extreme negligence and indifference in patient care. The relatives of the patient faced non-cooperation.

Moreover, as there was no interpreter, the staff and nurses of the hospital did not cooperate with the relatives of the patient.

Ajmal’s wife’s condition started getting worse due to negligence of the doctor. Problems also occurred in transplanted kidneys. As a result, on December 9, his wife was placed on life support. At this time, the physician did not stay by patient’s side. In this situation, Jinnatun died on December 11.

Journalist Ajmal complained that although the cost of treatment was fixed at Tk 18 lakh, a bill of Tk. 33 lakh was demanded after the death of his wife.

Doctor’s personal secretary also took a bribe of Tk. 33,000 in the name of providing quick medical care.

Later, when he complained of medical negligence for the death of his wife, the doctor threatened Ajmal and misbehaved with him.

Following the incident, a written complaint was lodged with the vice chairman of the hospital on December 16, 2020.

But Delhi Apollo Hospital did not take any action regarding the refund and compensation.

Claiming that his wife died due to negligence, journalist Ajmal demanded a refund of all the money given to the hospital for medical treatment.

He requested to take necessary action against the accused. Journalist Ajmal drew the attention of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the issue.

He said, “I, a senior journalist of Bangladesh working with an oldest Bangla Daily for a long time, am also working at Indian government’s policy making decision level to promote India-Bangladesh friendship”.

Ajmal Hossain had given a status on Facebook expressing his anger over the death of his wife.

Meanwhile, Civil Society members in Bangladesh condemned the doctor’s alleged negligence and demanded punitive action against the physician.
