POBNEWS24, April 26, 2022 : Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen today said Indian external affair minister Dr S. Jaishankar might bring some good news as his Indian counterpart is scheduled to pay a daylong visit here on Thursday.

“May be he (Jaishankar) will bring good news … he will give us surprise,” he told reporters at foreign ministry here without elaborating regarding the good news.

Dr Momen said he is happy about his Indian counterpart’s visit as Bangladesh and India have been enjoying a “sweet” relation. “We always welcome him (Jaishankar) here,” he added.

Bangladesh foreign minister said that Jaishankar would meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and hold a bilateral meeting with him.

During Jaishankar’s visit, he said, the date of seventh Bangladesh-India Joint Consultative Commission (JCC) meeting, which is scheduled to take place in New Delhi, would be fixed.

“We will discuss all our major bilateral issues (during the visit,” Momen said.

On Monday, India’s Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla told media in New Delhi that Jaishankar would pay a daylong visit in Dhaka on Thursday to hand over an invitation letter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina to visit India.

Jaishankar will arrive in Dhaka in the morning on Thursday by a special aircraft and return to New Delhi on the same day evening, according to diplomatic sources in New Delhi.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina last visited New Delhi from October 3 to 6 to attend the Indian Economic Summit of the World Economic Forum (WEF).

During the visit, the Bangladesh Premier held bilateral talks with her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.

Besides, Indian Premier Modi had visited Bangladesh from March 26-27 at the invitation of his Bangladesh counterpart to join the celebration of golden jubilee of Bangladesh’s independence, the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the 50th years of establishment of Bangladesh-India diplomatic relations.

Indian President Ram Nath Kovind paid a state visit to Bangladesh from December 15-17 at the invitation of his Bangladesh counterpart Abdul Hamid to attend the 50th victory day celebrations of Bangladesh.
