POBNEWS24, Dhaka, June 26, 2023 : Indian cows have not yet entered through the border. As a result, the cows of the country are adorning the animal market of Jessore’s Sharsha Upazila. These border markets are filled with native cows and goats. However, due to less number of buyers, sellers and shop owners are disappointed.

Farmers say that Indian cows have not yet arrived in the market. So there is a market for domestic cows. The price of cow-fodder increases the price slightly higher. But there is no buyer. The Upazila Livestock Department claims that due to the supervision of health tests, nutritious animals are available.

From Benapole to Rudrapur in Sharsha, barbed wire fences are in most places except the Ichamati river section of the border. Besides, there is joint surveillance of BGB-BSF through CC cameras. On behalf of BGB, a discussion meeting has been held at the border and a call has been made not to bring Indian cows. As a result, it is now difficult to bring cattle through this border.

There has been a large gathering of animals at the Satmile market of the upazila. For the safety of the buyers and sellers, the owners of the huts are constantly working with their own people. Goats are also being sold in the market along with various breeds of cows including Desi, Shahiwal, Friesian. Usually two days a week, Saturday and Tuesday, the market will continue until the day before Eid, said the lessee. Traders from various districts of the country including Dhaka, Rangpur, Chittagong, Barisal bought cows from Satmile animal market.

Nasir Uddin, a farmer of Putkhali village in the upazila, said that the price of cow food is high. But according to the price that the buyers are asking, it is seen that there is a loss of 20,000 to 25,000 taka per cow.

Another farmer expressed his disappointment because the animals were not sold and said that there are thousands of sacrificial animals in the market. There are thousands of buyers. But still the sale of animals is low.

Several buyers said that the price of cattle is higher this year than in the past. However, the sellers claim that the cost of animal husbandry has increased due to the increase in the price of fodder. As a result, they are seeing the number of losses due to the increased price of animals in the market.

Cow trader Abdul Aziz said that more animals are coming from different areas to this market in the upazila. Hatvarti cow. The sales in this market are much higher than the last few markets. Medium size cows are in high demand.

Abu Taleb, the lessee of Satmile Cattle Hut, told Jago News that overall security measures have been taken for the hut. A campaign is being carried out on Mike so that buyers and sellers are not cheated. There are two more markets before Eid. To suffer huge losses if sales do not increase.

Sharsha Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Vinoy Krishna Mandal told Jago News that 15,300 animals from 1,322 farms have been prepared for sacrifice in the upazila this year. Among them are cows. Goats, sheep and buffaloes. This year there is a demand of 9 thousand 120 sacrificial animals in the upazila. Sacrificial animals in excess of demand can be supplied to outlying districts.

He also said that the medical team is working during the sale of sacrificial animals at Satmail Market. The medical team is working to identify any diseased animal. At the same time, there is a cashless system in the market. Buyers can buy animals through mobile banking.

Ilyas Kabir Bakul, general secretary of Satmail Pashuhat and former chairman of Baganchra Union Parishad, told Jago News that the traditional Baganchra Satmile Pashuhat has imported animals on a large scale. But sales are low. There is no chance of Indian cows coming this time. If the sales increase, the domestic farmers will see a lot of profit. We Cattle Market is suitable for buyers and sellers. Round-the-clock market monitoring continues on our part.
