In a statement issued after the summit hosted by China, the Indian Foreign Ministry detailed Modi’s remarks. He also stressed the need for development partnerships in Africa, Central Asia and Southeast Asia, and from the Pacific to the Caribbean.
In addition to global issues such as multilateral system reform, the Covid-19 epidemic and global economic recovery, the leaders on Thursday discussed a range of issues, including counter-terrorism, trade, health and agriculture, the statement said.

In his speech on Friday, Narendra Modi highlighted India’s development partnership in Africa, Central Asia and Southeast Asia and from the Pacific to the Caribbean.
He also stressed India’s importance in respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific, using free, liberal, inclusive and lawful maritime boundaries.
Meanwhile, the BRICS joint declaration said, “When, where and whoever,” the leaders strongly condemned all forms of terrorism. “We acknowledge the risks posed by terrorism, terrorist-sponsored extremism and fundamentalism,” it said. To this end, we are committed to fighting all forms of terrorism and terrorist activities, including cross-border movement of terrorists, terrorist financing networks and safe havens.
Apart from the member countries, Algeria, Argentina, Cambodia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Fiji, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Senegal, Uzbekistan, Malaysia and Thailand are participating in the BRICS conference.
