POBNEWS24, Dhaka Jan 3, 2023 : Senior Secretary of Energy and Mineral Resources Department has been appointed as Cabinet Secretary. Mahbub Hossain. A notification has been issued by the Ministry of Public Administration appointing him on Tuesday (January 3).
The notification was signed by Sheikh Shamchul Arefin, senior assistant secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration. It is said there, Senior Secretary of Energy and Mineral Resources Department. Mahbub Hossain was appointed as Cabinet Secretary.
This order issued in public interest will be effective immediately.
Earlier on December 11, the Ministry of Public Administration appointed Kabir Bin Anwar as the 23rd Cabinet Secretary. He succeeded Mohammad Khandaker Anwarul Islam. Another notification issued today also announced the retirement of Kabir bin Anwar.
The senior secretary is going to sit in this chair of the most important official of the government’s administrative machinery. Mahbub Hossain, who till now handled the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources. He will take charge as the 24th Cabinet Secretary of the country.
Mahbub Hossain, a member of the 1986 (eighth) batch of BCS administration cadre, joined the civil service on December 20, 1989. During his career, he served as Assistant/Senior Assistant Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary in Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Science and Technology, Planning Commission, Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Local Government Department. Apart from this, he has served as Private Secretary to the Secretary, Private Secretary to the State Minister for Planning, Trainer of National Planning and Development Academy, Deputy Head of Health Economics Unit (Gender), Secretary of Dhaka South City Corporation and Director (Development and Planning) of Bangladesh Climate Change Trust.
Mahbub Hossain obtained SSC in 1979 from Barisal Residential Model College (now Barisal Cadet College), HSC in 1981 from Barisal BM College, BSS (Hons) in Sociology in 1984 batch and MSS in 1985 batch from Dhaka University. After joining the service, he received an MBA from the University of North London in the UK and an MA in Gender and Development from the University of Melbourne in Australia.
His village home is Patarchar village of Muladi upazila in Barisal. His father’s name is Md. Abdul Hakim Khan (deceased) and mother’s name is Begum Meherunnessa. He is the father of two sons.
