POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Aug 13, 2022: Speaker of the National Parliament. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury said, after passing from the status of a less developed country, the relationship between Bangladesh and various countries and organizations, including the United Nations, has become multi-dimensional. Bangladesh’s economy is now not dependent on foreign aid. Bangladesh has proved its economic and technical capabilities by implementing large projects like the Padma Bridge with its own funding.
Ms. Kani Vignarajah, Assistant Secretary General of UNDP at the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations said these things during a meeting with relevant officials.
This information was informed in a circular of Parliament Secretariat today Saturday (August 13).
The meeting was also attended by Mohammad Abdul Muhith, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations, MA Kamal Billah, Joint Secretary of the National Parliament Secretariat, Shahanara Monika, Bangladesh Permanent Mission Councilor and Francine Pickup, UNDP official.
At this time, the speaker also said that Bangladesh is working efficiently to protect the environment and deal with disasters. Members of Parliament are also closely involved in these activities. He pointed out that UNDP can work with the Bangladesh National Parliament to accelerate issues such as new technology and knowledge exchange in the contemporary global system.
Agreeing with the speaker, Kani Vignaraja said, UNDP is therefore working to strengthen sector-based technical cooperation in Bangladesh in the light of the United Nations policy. In the new scenario, Bangladesh and the United Nations can work together on exchange issues such as carbon trading, prevention of all forms of pollution or strengthening of green (environmentally friendly) production processes.
At this time Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury said, in the contemporary context, the development needs of different areas should be implemented on a priority basis. For that purpose, the updated information of the concerned area should be made available to the parliamentarians.
He said that the National Parliament has launched the ‘My Constitution’ app with the cooperation of various agencies of the government, especially the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics. The speaker expressed his gratitude to UNDP for the technical support in launching the app.
The concerned official of UNDP, Francine Pickup, informed the speaker that UNDP is working vigorously on the implementation of the app.
Highlighting the challenges of implementing the app, the speaker said, this app should have constituency-wise updated statistics. So that members of Parliament can get the sector-wise information of their constituencies through that app.
At this time, Kani Vignaraja said that the implementation of this app is an ongoing process. Initiatives will be taken to make it more user-friendly in view of the needs of the National Parliament.
