POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Aug 13, 2022: The foreign minister gave an explanation about the comment, ‘If you compare it with other countries, the people of Bangladesh are in heaven’. AK Abdul Momen. He said, ‘My speech has been twisted by the journalists. ‘

He made this comment in response to questions from journalists after the scholarship awarding ceremony organized by Sylhet Zilla Parishad on Saturday (August 13).

Foreign Minister Momen told reporters, ‘People of Bangladesh are doing better than other countries in the global recession.

We are happy, in heaven. ‘

He said, ‘Bangladesh will become Sri Lanka – one side is creating panic by spreading such panic. It is true that we are in a bit of a crisis due to the global recession, but we have enough reserves. As a forewarning we are trying to be a bit frugal. ‘

Momen said, “I said, I am doing well in comparison to other countries (compared to other countries). And you have written everywhere ‘heaven says’. It means twisted. “

He said, ‘Inflation is 12 percent in England, 67 percent in Turkey, 37 percent in Pakistan, 150 percent in Sri Lanka, and our inflation is only 7 percent. We are fine with that. But you did not say these words. If we compare these things, we are very good. It is not right to twist without understanding the matter. ‘

At that time, the foreign minister said, ‘The Joint River Commission (JRC) meeting will be held at the end of this month. Six rivers will be decided in that meeting. I want to make all the waterways of the country operational as before. That matter will be discussed in the meeting. ‘

He also said, ‘sudden floods in Sylhet are caused by the upstream hill slopes. Therefore, it has been proposed to India to inform Bangladesh in advance of the flood forecast there and to inform Bangladesh before opening the dams. India has agreed in principle on these issues. ‘

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit India on the invitation of the Indian government on 4-5 of next month, the minister said, ‘The agenda of the Prime Minister’s visit has not been finalized yet. However, the development of Bangladesh’s bilateral relations with India will prevail in that visit. The current global situation will also be discussed there. ‘

At that time, the President of Sylhet Metropolitan Awami League, freedom fighter Masuk Uddin Ahmad, Acting President of District Awami League Shafikur Rahman Chowdhury and other political and administrative leaders were present.
