POBNEWS24 Dhaka Dec 3, 2023 : The low pressure created in the Bay of Bengal has developed into a cyclonic storm after distinct low pressure, low pressure, deep depression. It has been named ‘Migzaum’ after it took the form of a cyclone.

For this reason, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has asked the country’s four seaports to lower remote warning signal number 1 and display remote warning signal number 2.

The Directorate of Meteorology reported this information in a special weather bulletin on Sunday (December 3) morning.

The cyclone is moving in northwest direction towards the coast of India. Meteorologists said it will not hit Bangladesh.

The department’s special notification said that the deep depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas moved further northwest and intensified into Cyclone ‘Migzaum’ over the same area. It was 1,575 km southwest of Chittagong sea port, 1,525 km southwest of Cox’s Bazar sea port, 1,450 km southwest of Mongla sea port and 1,450 km southwest of Payra sea port at 6 am on Sunday. It may move further north-westwards and intensify.

Maximum sustained wind speed is 62 km/h within 54 km of the cyclone center, increasing to 88 km/h in gusts. The Meteorological Office also said that the sea is rough in the area near the center of the cyclone.

Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports have been asked to lower remote warning signal number 1 and show remote warning signal number 2 instead.

All types of fishing boats and trawlers operating in the North Bay of Bengal and deep sea have been asked to proceed cautiously close to the coast until further notice.

The India Meteorological Department said the deep depression is likely to intensify and move northwestward. It will then approach west-central Bay of Bengal and adjacent south Andhra Pradesh coast. It will then approach south Andhra Pradesh coast and may cross the coast as a cyclonic storm by Tuesday.

Escap is an organization of meteorologists of 13 countries (Bangladesh, Myanmar, India, Pakistan, Maldives, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Oman, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Yemen) in the Asia-Pacific region of the United Nations under the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). Gives the name of the cyclone. The name ‘Migjaum’ is given by Myanmar.

The Meteorological Department has said that the cyclone may affect Bangladesh by the end of this week. Meteorologists said that there may be rain or thunder in the southern and central parts of the country.
