POBNEWS24, Rajbari Sept 5, 2025 : The number of dengue patients is increasing in Rajbari. Although the mosquito problem is less during the day, it has become a burden to survive the pain of mosquitoes inside and outside the house in the evening. Even though the dengue outbreak has increased, the municipal authorities are not taking any effective initiative to control mosquitoes. There is no campaign to make citizens aware of mosquito control.
Rajbari municipal residents say that earlier the work of killing mosquitoes was done by local public representatives. But now because they are not there, no work of killing mosquitoes has been done in the city for the last one year. No pesticides are being applied in the drains, and the sound of fogger machines cannot be heard. This has greatly increased the mosquito infestation. Therefore, the residents want a solution to this problem quickly.
Sujan Kumar Bishnu, a resident of Binodpur Ward No. 3, said that there is a big drain and an unclean drain in their area. Where water from the market accumulates. Due to these two reasons, the mosquito infestation in the ward has increased drastically.
Kuthub Uddin, a school teacher from Sajjankanda T&T Para area of Ward No. 5 of the municipality, said that no mosquito control activities have been seen in this area for the past one year. This has created anger among the locals and they are demanding an immediate solution to this problem. This mosquito infestation has increased the risk of diseases like dengue, so immediate intervention by the authorities is required.
Tanmay Kumar Saha, a resident of Sahapara in Laxmikol, said that we have never been given mosquito repellent here. Mosquito coils have to be lit every day. This increases the additional cost. Along with this, the smoke from the coils is causing various diseases.
According to the district health department, the number of dengue patients in May was 5, 8 in June, 38 in July and 61 in August. In addition, 4 people were infected in Rajbari Sadar Hospital in August. From May to August, a total of 126 people, including 51 in Pangsha Upazila, 9 in Kalukhali, 52 in Baliakandi and 14 in Goalanda, have been infected. Doctors say that if we are not aware now, the situation could become more complicated.
Rajbari Municipality Executive Officer Md. Tayeb Ali said, we are not able to completely clean the garbage in the municipality due to the lack of covered vans. Although the garbage in the market area is cleaned properly, the garbage in the areas where trucks cannot go is not being cleaned properly.
He also said that our service activities in the municipality are being disrupted due to the lack of necessary medicines to kill mosquitoes. Out of several fogger machines, only two are currently operational, due to which we are not able to provide the desired services to the residents of the municipality. The administration has been informed about this. We hope that we will be able to normalize the situation soon if we get the necessary equipment and medicines.
Rajbari Civil Surgeon Dr. S. M. Masud said, dengue season is going on now. Dengue has not reached a critical level in Rajbari yet, it is under control. Last July, the number of infected people was 38, this time in August, the number of infected people is 61. No one has died from dengue this year. And in two months, the dengue outbreak will decrease.
