POBNEWS24, Dhaka, May 19, 2023 : (UNI) Divorce are iincreasing in the capital for the past few years. About six hundred divorces are recorded in two city corporations of Dhaka every month. Apart from this, divorce happens. The number of divorce applicants is higher among women. Divorce incidents are happening for various reasons including conflict of interests, or after being addicted to men and women, drug addicts.
Separation is never painful! Sometimes it’s free! A long sigh like the last scene of the Oscar-winning Iranian film ‘A Separation’. However, both husband and wife are taking extreme decisions like divorce.
Two city corporations keep the record of divorce in Dhaka. According to their data, the number of divorces has increased in the last three years. In Dhaka North City Corporation area in 2020, 3 thousand 442 marriages broke up. Over the next year, about a thousand more families broke up. And till November 2022 this number is 5 thousand 126.
The number of divorces is more in Dhaka South City Corporation area. A total of seven thousand 245 families were separated in 2021, and seven thousand 698 families broke up the following year. And in the first three months of this year, 1 thousand 690 divorces occurred.
Although women apply more for divorce, they suffer more. Lawyer and sociologist Zeenat Huda says that lack of trust between husband and wife and multifaceted flow of identities and relationships through social media are major reasons for divorce. He thinks that it is impossible to prevent separation with only religion, ethics, law or patriarchy.
