POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Feb 3, 2025 : Principal Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has directed the police to launch a drive against extortionists to keep the prices of food and essential commodities stable during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.
In a high-level meeting with top security officials at the State Guest House Jamuna on Monday, the principal advisor directed the security chiefs to always be vigilant against any attempt to disrupt the law and order situation.
The principal advisor said, the associates of the ousted dictator Sheikh Hasina are spending a huge amount of money to create chaos and are spreading propaganda. We must always be vigilant. Everyone must fight against this propaganda. We must be as vigilant as if we are in a war situation. This year is very important for the country. No one can be allowed to create anarchy.
He directed the security forces to take special measures to protect the human rights of citizens as well as to prevent any attacks against religious and ethnic minorities, saying, “If we fail to protect our religious minorities, our global image will be severely damaged. We have to be very transparent about this.” He said, the chief advisor called on everyone to be vigilant, saying that the associates of the ousted dictator Sheikh Hasina are spending huge amounts of money to spread anarchy and confusion.
Meanwhile, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, advisor to the Yunus government’s Ministry of Home Affairs, has formed a task force to determine what to do with foreign nationals staying in Bangladesh. The ministry issued a notification in this regard on Monday (February 3).
It said that the committee formed with the Additional Secretary (Security and Immigration) of the Security Department as the convener has the following members: the Director General of the Office of the Chief Advisor, the Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Joint Secretary of the Public Security Department (Political-1 Branch), the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Immigration) of the Special Branch (SB), the Additional Director General of the Immigration and Passport Department (Passport, Visa and Immigration), the Director (Operation Wing) of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), the Director of the NGO Affairs Bureau of the Office of the Chief Advisor, and the Director of the National Security Intelligence Directorate (External Affairs and Liaison Bureau).
The Joint Secretary of the Security Services Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs (External Affairs and Liaison Bureau) has been made the member secretary of the committee.
The scope of their work is stated as coordinating and providing advice on the overall activities taken regarding foreign citizens illegally staying in Bangladesh; The committee will direct necessary action to be taken on these matters and may formulate recommendations if necessary. The committee may request any officer/person to attend the meeting and may co-opt if necessary.
