POBNEWS24, Comilla, Jan 9, 2026: Four people died and were burnt after a collision between a bus, motorcycle and autorickshaw in Daudkandi, Comilla district, Bangladesh. At least 22 people were injured.
The incident took place on Friday afternoon in the Baniapara area of the upazila on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, said Daudkandi Highway Police Station OC Iqbal Bahar Majumdar.
The deceased include a man, a woman and two children. In the meantime, the Fire Service and Civil Defense have recovered the bodies of the four people. According to them, two of the deceased were passengers of the bus and two of the motorcycle.
The deceased include motorcycle rider Shamim Ahmed (40) of Jinlatoli area of Daudkandi and his six-year-old son Nadiv Ahmed.
The family said that the father and son were on their motorcycles to offer Jumma prayers at Baniapara Darbar Sharif at noon.
The other deceased child is named Hussain. The 18-month-old child’s father, Suman, from Sonargaon upazila in Narayanganj, was also a passenger in the bus. They were going from Sonargaon in Narayanganj to Feni.
Passengers said that the bus was initially moving very slowly. Then it suddenly increased its speed. The bus then lost control and first hit an auto-rickshaw in front, causing the auto-rickshaw to fall into a ditch on the side of the road. Later, it went and landed on the motorcycle.
Bus passenger Suman told reporters, “Before the accident, the bus driver and supervisor had an argument with the passengers. Because, the driver was driving the bus at a very low speed. And the supervisor was stopping the bus wherever he could and picking people up from the road.
“During the argument, the driver suddenly increased his speed. Then he lost control of the bus and the accident occurred.”
Suman was crying and saying, “I have lost my son. It is all the fault of that bus driver.”
Daudkandi Highway Police Station OC Iqbal Bahar Majumdar said, “Initially, it is believed that the fire started from the motorcycle’s fuel tank after the collision with the bus. The entire bus caught fire. The fire service arrived and brought the fire under control. Then we saw the burnt bodies of four people lying at the scene. Later, the victims were sent to the hospital.”
Habibur Rahman, in-charge of Daudkandi Upazila Health Complex in Gouripur, said, “The rescuers brought a total of 26 people to the hospital from Baniapara. We found four dead.
“Ten people have been transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment. The rest have been given primary treatment and are currently being kept in the hospital. Four of them were burnt.”
