POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Jun 24, 2021: Newly-appointed Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed has been given the rank badge of General.
The rank badge was presented to the new army chief at Ganobhaban on Thursday morning in the presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Shaheen Iqbal and Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sheikh Abdul Hannan presented the rank badge to the new Chief of Army Staff.
MM Imrul Kayes, Assistant Press Secretary to the Prime Minister, said that after wearing the rank badge, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina greeted the newly-appointed Army Chief with a bouquet of flowers and wished him success.
The new army chief also greeted the Prime Minister with flowers.
Among others, Major General (Retd.) Tariq Ahmed Siddique, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Security, Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces, Lt. General Walker-uz-Zaman, Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office. Tofazzal Hossain Mia, Special Security Force (SSF) Director General Major General Md. Mojibur Rahman and Military Secretary to the Prime Minister Major General Naqib Ahmed Chowdhury were present.
The new Chief of Army Staff, General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, replaces the recently departed Chief of Army Staff, General Aziz Ahmed.
In a circular issued by the Ministry of Defense on June 10, Lieutenant General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed was promoted to the rank of General and given the charge of Chief of Army Staff for the next three years from June 24. SM Shafiuddin Ahmed had earlier served as the Quarter Master General of the Army Headquarters.
