POBNEWS24, Dhaka July 30, 2021 : Bangladesh Information and Broadcasting Minister and Joint General Secretary of the Awami League Hasan Mahmud said that action will be taken soon against the unprincipled IP TV.
The information minister was responding to a question from reporters at his official residence in Dhaka on Friday afternoon.
Hasan Mahmud said, “Some IP TVs are often involved in spreading rumors, serving false information and engaging in hoaxes. Again, it is seen that before getting the approval, some people have opened offices like television channels, appointing district representatives. All these issues need to be brought under one rule.
Opening IP TV like a frog’s umbrella all over the country, whoever wants to do it is never legal or desirable. Hasan Mahmud said that good quality IP TV will be approved and those who have various complaints will be investigated and immediate action will be taken.
The information minister said the ministry had invited applications for registration from IP TVs. About five hundred applications have been submitted and we have sorted them out. Those whose quality is good, will be given registration.
Responding to a reporter’s question about Helena Jahangir, an IPTV operator named Jayayatra, the Information Minister said, “It was not appropriate for such a person to enter the party’s sub-committee through loopholes. Those who made the recommendations also needed to know more. Action is being taken against him and we will look into the allegations about his IP TV. If it is found to be true, action will be taken.
The Information Minister then discussed various aspects of the country’s film industry with Sudipta Kumar Das, Chief Adviser, Bangladesh Film Exhibitors Association and Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar, Film Director.
