POBNEWS24,Dhaka Oct 28, 2021:Foreign Minister. AK Abdul Momen said Bangladesh expects a new wave of investment in Japanese-based companies and joint ventures when the Japanese economic zone is ready in 2022. Bangladesh welcomes investment, trade and communication at both G2G and P2P levels.
He said this while addressing the Japan-Bangladesh Investment Summit 2021 on Wednesday.
The Foreign Minister said in many cases Japan and Bangladesh could be development partners in infrastructure development or in emerging sectors like ICT. According to the growing Foreign Direct Investment, as Japan is one of the top 5 foreign investors in Bangladesh, it could be one of our major partners in mega-projects in finance, construction, capital and technology.
Trade relations between Japan and Bangladesh have now reached a different height. The trade volume between the two countries stands at 3 billion US dollars. Our exports to Japan amount to ২ 1.2 billion and our imports from Japan amount to ৮ 1.6 billion.
“We want diversification in our investment, product and export markets,” he said. We want to serve both the industry and the consumer in the global market in the best possible way. Bangladeshi missions abroad have been directed to assist in business and economic initiatives. Bangladesh deeply appreciates the strong, broad and deep relationship with Japan.
He further said that the visit of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to Japan in 1972 laid the foundation of friendly relations between Bangladesh and Japan and we are still enjoying its benefits. At present, we are moving strongly towards economic diplomacy.
The Foreign Minister further said that the Prime Minister’s outstanding ability to lift the entire country out of poverty and turn Bangladesh into a middle-income country in less than 12 years has been recognized worldwide. Now the story of this miraculous development of Sheikh Hasina is being told. This is the story in Bangladesh. While different countries of the world could not overcome the Kavid-19 epidemic, Bangladesh has maintained the economic progress of the country by dealing with this epidemic quickly.
