POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Sept 17, 2023 : What a final match! In what definition of a one-sided fight can it be put? A total of 21.3 overs were played in the 50-over match! Last time champions Sri Lanka lost the final with an extremely shameful performance.

Chasing the target of 51 runs, India won by 10 wickets in 6.1 overs. Two openers Ishan Kishan 23 and Shubman Gill remained unbeaten on 27 runs.

India became the Asia Cup champion for the eighth time with this victory with 263 balls in hand.

Earlier, only Mohammad Siraj finished off Sri Lanka. He took 6 wickets alone. In 15.2 overs, the Lankans’ innings ended in just 50 runs.

This is the ninth lowest total in ODI history by any team, the second lowest in Sri Lanka’s history. Earlier in 2012, the Lankans were bowled out for 43 runs against South Africa in Pearl.

Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo today. Who knew, the first to bat will be like this!

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah struck in the first over. Kushal Perera (0 from 2 balls) caught the wicketkeeper while driving him in the third ball of the innings

Siraj-Jhar in the fourth over of the innings. Siraj started with his first over maiden. He showed terrible form in the next over. One by one, Lankan returned 4 batters to the dressing room.

Pathum Nishanka (2 off 4) was caught by Siraj by Ravindra Jadeja in the first ball of the over. He lbw Sadira Samarawickrama (0) off the third ball. Next ball Charith forces Asalanka (0) to be caught at cover.

Dhananjaya de Silva hit the hat-trick delivery for a boundary. But he made a big mistake without understanding the situation. Dhananjaya (2 balls 4) caught the wicketkeeper while playing outside the body in the next ball. Siraj took 4 wickets in that over.

In his next over (sixth of the Lankan innings) another victim of Siraj’s fourth ball. Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka blew the offstump. Siraj completed 4 runs by Fifer.

This is the joint record with Chaminda Bhas for the fastest five-wicket haul with the ball. The former Lankan pacer took 5 wickets in 16 balls against Bangladesh in 2003 World Cup.

In the end Siraj took 6 wickets for just 21 runs including a maiden in 7 overs. Hardik Pandya took 3 wickets for 3 runs.
