POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Feb 19, 2026 : Indian visa activities for Bangladeshis may soon return to normal, said Aniruddha Das, Assistant High Commissioner of India in Sylhet. He said that initiatives have been taken to fully resume the visa activities that are currently operating on a limited scale.
He said this while exchanging views with journalists at the Sylhet District Press Club.
Aniruddha Das said that although medical and double-entry visas are currently operating, visas of other categories including tourism are closed. However, strong initiatives have been taken to resume these visas. He expressed hope that all types of Indian visa activities will soon return to normal.
He also said that visa activities for Bangladeshis have been restricted since the mass uprising. Most visas, except medical visas, are closed. However, with the improvement of the situation after the formation of a new government in Bangladesh, there is a possibility of normalization of visa activities.
Regarding the relations between the two countries, the Assistant High Commissioner said that the relations between India and Bangladesh are based on mutual respect and honor. The people of both countries are the main partners in this positive and long-term relationship. He also mentioned that historically there is a deep connection between the cultures and traditions of the two countries.
It is worth noting that after 5 August 2024, the India-Bangladesh visa system was in limbo due to diplomatic tensions between the two countries, which has seriously affected both countries.
In particular, the medical system of Bangladesh has not been able to gain the trust of the people for a long time. Due to which, complex patients are not able to go to India for treatment due to visa complications.
