POBNEWS24.Net Dhaka, Jan 20, 2021 : As land grabbers sheltered by ruling party continue to grab land belonging to minority community, the community demanded ensuring security to them.
Hindu leaders said culprits, led by a former union parishad member, created a reign of terror by grabbing land at Srikhondia at Ashulia union of Savar upzila near the capital.
No administrative step was taken against the culprit till date, they said.
In another incident, a group of people, led by Manju, illegally captured the land, owned by Francis Baroi, at Rajapur village in Wajirpur upazila of Barishal.
Bangladesh Jatiyo Hindu Mohajot alleged that many GDs and cases in this regard lodged with concerned police stations have failed to redress the sufferings of the minority as law enforcers and courts are taken hostage by the culprits.
Bangladesh National Hindu Mohajot demanded keeping the provision of 60 reserved seats in the Parliament and separate election system for the minority, formation of minority affairs ministry and an independent Minority Commission for ensuring the rights of the minority.
The organization said such steps are needed to ensure security to Hindu and Christian communities.
Leaders of the organization hoped that the government would take steps for implementation of their demand by passing bill in the current session of the parliament.
Leaders of the Mohajot remarked while addressing a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity on Thusday.
Advocate Gobinda Chandra Pramanik, secretary general of the organization, read out a written speech at the press conference, which was attended by Advocate Bidhan Bihari Goswami, president of the organization, among others.
Presenting statistics of repression on Hindu community from January to Dec 29, 2020, Advocate Pramanik said, 149 were killed, 201 got threat on life, attempt to murder on 146, 7037 were injured in attacks, 61 remained missing, extortion worth Tk. 45.50 lakh was realized from Hindus, 244 families and temples were looted, damages worth over Tk 1322 crore were done.
Incidents of 116 arson attacks took place, 101 incidents of attack on business establishments happened, 10,000 acres of land of minorities were illegally grabbed during the period, he said.
Painting a comparative statistics, he said repression on Hindus increased several times more in the last five years compared to 2015.
Pramanik said the repression continued as their demand to ensure security to Hindus went unheeded by the government.
Pramanik told this correspondent that they did not get any support from the Indian government though they contacted with the Indian High Commission in Dhaka in this regard.
Civil Society activists said though there is good relation between the governments of Bangladesh and India, incidents like repression on Hindus is taking place in the country.
