POBNEWS24, Dhaka Feb 5, 2024 : A total of 95 members of Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) have so far entered into Bangladesh amid ongoing conflict in their country. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has disarmed them and kept them in its custody.
BGB revealed this information at a press release on Monday.
The clashes between insurgent groups including the Arakan Army and the military in Myanmar have intensified recently.
Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan told journalists yesterday that the BGP members entered here to defend themselves. This could happen.
“Don’t you remember, we entered India during the liberation war? Not one, but millions of people went there. They entered here to defend themselves, not for war,” he said, adding that they will be sent back to their country.
Meanwhile, 400 Chakmas of Myanmar are waiting to enter the Ghumdhum border
Around 400 people from the country’s Chakma community are waiting to cross into Bangladesh amid ongoing clashes between Myanmar government forces and the Arakan Army (AA), a rebel group, across the Ghumdhum border in Bandarban’s Naikxyongchari upazila. Besides, a number of Rohingyas are also gathering at the border. The information was confirmed to this correspondent by Cox’s Bazar Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC). Mizanur Rahman.
