POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Apr 23, 2021: Narayanganj in Bangladesh located near the capital Dhaka, is still the stronghold of pro-Pakistani anti-liberation organization ‘Jamaat’, 50 years after the country’s independence.

As a result, incidents like capturing properties of minority and murders are common matter there. Although Awami League-led government is running the country now, the new Awami Leaguers, known as hybrid, are controlling the destiny of the people of the area.

It is known that in the last 10 years, about 67 incidents of murder and disappearance at the instigation of those hybrid leaders took place. The current mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation tried to seize the property of Zeus Pond Debottar through 6 fake documents. The market value of that property is about 1000 crore taka.

Khokon Saha, general secretary of Narayanganj city unit Awami League, has been attacked and sued in case for protesting against the incident. Khokon Saha spoke on the issue of capture of Debottar property on a YouTube channel called “Hindu Live Matters”.

Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy filed a case against him under the Digital Security Act.

A case has also been filed in the Dhaka CyberCourt against about a dozen journalists who reported on the seizure of Debottar’s property. The case is going now.

Hearing of the case against Khokon Saha was held on February 8, 2021.

From mosque to the land of the cemetery and even crematorium were not escaped from the onslaught of capture.

A question has risen now as to how those who tarnished the party’s image could get the chance to remain in the party. No action has been taken by the central committee of the Awami League till date in this regard. Instead, she has been made the vice president of Narayanganj unit Awami League.

In a speech on the Taki Mancha on December 6, 2013, Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy said that the two leaders have pushed the country towards destruction. She said that they were dragging Ershad, news of which was published in Dainik Jugantor on December 7, 2013.

The Awami League government is the patron of the murderers in Narayanganj, killing one after another is taking place, but police administration failed to catch the murderers. She made such remarks in another meeting, news of which was published by Daily Jugantor on May 26, 2013.

In another public meeting, she said that the state-sponsored Godfathers were looting and murdering in the dark of night. Daily Jugantor published its news on September 17, 2013.

The question by members of ruling Awami League was made as to how Mayor Ivy being a member of the ruling party made such statements against the party.

The matter was further exposed in the speech of district unit Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Mainuddin Ahmed.

According to his speech, the Jamaat leader took some land in the name of Adarsha School from Ivy’s father Ali Ahmed Chunka. That land was originally owned by Nur Welfare Foundation. Some officials of Adamjee formed the Foundation and bought the land in the Foundation’s name.

When the officers later left, Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy’s father captured the land. Some portions of that land are inside the Adarsha school. The founding principal of this school was war criminal Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid.

Bangladesh executed Mujahid a few years ago.

Mujahid’s wife Tamanna E Jahan and Mayor Ivy, two classmates, have been close friends for a long time.

That is why the spread of Islamic fundamentalist groups took place in Narayanganj.

BNP is a patron of fundamentalist forces. There was a talking between Khaleda Zia, BNP’s chairperson, and Ivy that the latter would join BNP after the election.

But Ivy is working in the interest of  fundamentalist force staying with Awami League.

According to the Amir of Jamaat, Ivy got 50% of votes from Jamaat-BNP supporters in the mayoral election.

The Jamaat-e-Islami leader said that when Ali Ahsan Mujahid was in jail, he needed to register the birth of his sons, but it was not possible to get it done. Selina Hayat Ivy helped it to be done in half an hour.

According to him, Ivy is needed for BNP-Jamaat to survive in Narayanganj. There is no alternative to Ivy for them to resist Shamim Osman.

Shamim Osman, Narayanganj’s ruling party MP, told this correspondent that if India had not been on our side in 1971, we would not have been able to defeat Pakistan. Pakistan has been defeated but their spirits are still there, Narayanganj is a great example of it.

I think our struggle is not yet over. He said, “Our party is a pro-independence force. In order to continue the trend of development under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, those who are hybrids in the party must be resisted”.

Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy is one of those hybrids. I believe that honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will look into the matter.

Only with her intervention, we will be able to free Narayanganj from the hands of fundamentalists and Pakistani ghosts, he observed.

On the other hand, progressive political analysts say that Narayanganj is now the only stronghold of fundamentalist religious force in Bangladesh.

Honourable leader Sheikh Hasina is the only hope and policymaker to eradicate fundamentalism from that city. Through her, a non-communal Bangladesh with the main mantra of independence will move forward. In that country, there will be no more Pakistani ghosts, they observed.
